    Contact Info: 310-415-6205; DrShirley@att.net

    Website: DrShirley.com

    Bio/Specialties:
Dr. Shirley Impellizzeri, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist based in Los Angeles, California. She earned her doctorate in psychology from UCLA and began her career investigating child abuse cases for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, an experience that deeply informed her understanding of how trauma imprints on the nervous system. Over the years, Dr. Shirley has become known for her direct yet compassionate approach, blending clear psychological insight with genuine warmth and accessibility.

Recognizing that trauma lives as much in the body as in the mind, Dr. Shirley trained in Somatic Experiencing®, the body-oriented trauma resolution method developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine. As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), she integrates this work into her private practice and teaching, helping clients and students alike access the body’s innate capacity for regulation and healing. Her “Connect the Dots” approach bridges the gap between talk therapy and embodied experience, supporting individuals to identify and release long-held survival patterns.

Dr. Shirley is also a published author, media psychologist, and bilingual educator. Her books, Why Can’t I Change? and Scared Speechless, reflect her ongoing interest in personal transformation and authentic self-expression. Whether working in one-on-one sessions, leading workshops, or appearing in media, she brings curiosity, clarity, and humor to her mission: helping people feel safe in their bodies and free to live fully.

  • Ilene Blaisch, LCSW, SEP (Retired)

    Location: San Clemente, CA

    Contact Info: (818) 903-0397, ileneblaisch@gmail.com, www.ileneblaisch.com

Bio/Specialties: My work with individuals, couples, families and communities for 42+ years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and psychotherapist have been a wondrous and joyful labor of love. I recently retired from my decades-long career in private practice, community service development, and directing college mental health services. The invitation to accompany a person on part of their healing journey is an honor and has been profoundly meaningful. When I became a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in 2014, it expanded the way I perceived healing and life in general.  Learning to work with the physiology of a person’s autonomic nervous system added a rich and critical component to the more familiar cognitive and emotional processes of traditional “talk” therapy. As an assistant I regularly participated in SE professional trainings, continually deepening my learning and cultivating many new friendships. Along the way, I completed the Foundational Training for NeuroAffective Touch (Dr. Aline LaPierre), adding another layer of understanding to how trauma in the body starts to release. I’ve also been fortunate to work closely with Dr. Peter Levine, assisting in his master classes plus work on a few mutual projects together (involving a somatic tool known as Smovey Rings and the diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease for me early in my SE journey). I’m delighted to be assisting in this workshop for the third time with Betsy Politan, a magnificent teacher and human being, as she and Peter join forces for a very special three days.  I will not be providing personal sessions, but would love to say hello at some break.

  • Laura Melton, SEP, CMP, NARM, NATouch

    Office Location: Los Angeles, California

Contact Info: 818-266-9600 text or WhatsApp

In 33 years of studying and working with touch for healing, I’ve come to see that life itself is a profound master class—and the body is our most faithful textbook. Touch is our first language and my primary therapeutic modality for healing developmental and relational trauma. Within the experience of supported safety and relational coherence, the body’s sensations and the mind’s reflections can together transform core attachment wounds through the antidotal experience of attuned touch.

Since 2001, I’ve had the honor of assisting Dr. Peter Levine and numerous SE faculty throughout the U.S., Canada, Brazil, and Australia. My work integrates Somatic Experiencing®, Dr. Aline LaPierre’s NeuroAffective Touch®, Betsy Polatin’s breath and movement work, mindfulness, and embodied awareness practices.

Movement — from fixity to flow: Two meaningful, life-changing experiences shaped my path. As a classical and professional dancer, I lived within the disciplined world of technical precision. In 1992, a Continuum class at Esalen Institute cracked me open—guiding me from structured form into the fluidity of embodied life force. A few years later, my Somatic Experiencing® training invited me from emotional and relational freeze into the freedom to be.

Through these experiences, I’ve come to recognize artistic expression as a profound portal for healing—a bridge between the inner world of sensation and the outer expression of being. Movement, sound, touch, and creativity open pathways for integration and embodied wholeness.

I am deeply honored to support Dr. Levine, Betsy Polatin, and our exceptional teaching team—and to witness, support, and connect with each of you on this healing journey.
