Shame and Grief: How Trauma Lives in the Body

January 21st, 2026
90-minutes
featuring Dr Levine

In my work over the years, I’ve seen how often shame and grief quietly shape the therapeutic process. They don’t usually announce themselves—they show up through the body. Learning to recognize these patterns physiologically can deepen both understanding and care. That’s why I want to personally invite you to a free, live training I’ll be teaching together with Diane Poole Heller:

Shame and Grief: How Trauma Lives in the Body on January 21st, 2026

In this 90-minute session, I’ll explore how shame and grief show up in the body—and how the nervous system attempts to protect, regulate, and eventually release them.

This is not a scripted presentation. It is a live demonstration session. It’s an opportunity to understand visually how the body actually processes trauma.

In this program, you’ll learn:

- How shame and grief live in the body as adaptive responses—not pathologies

- Core Somatic Experiencing® principles that support the nervous system’s natural movement toward regulation

- How shame and grief often interact and block one another, or—when supported—allow release

- Gentle, body-based ways of working that honor pacing, safety, and dignity

We’ll also leave space for a brief intro on the topic, live Q&A, and a replay will be sent to everyone who registers.

For those who find this material meaningful, I’ll also share an invitation to continue with my five-session experiential series, where I work more deeply with shame and grief through live demonstrations, in-depth debriefs, guided group experiences, with recorded and written integration materials.

I hope you’ll join us.

Warmly, Peter A. Levine, PhD
